Sliding rail is a simple device, which allows you to slide your equipment in or out of an enclosure. Below are few key terminologies you need to know in order to make the right section for your project.
Cross section: Cross section is import for determining how wide your equipment can be when installed with a pair of sliding rail. Cross section of rail tells how much space you need for right and left side of your equipment.
Rail Disconnect: When you want to detach your slid from the rail, you need to know what types of rail disconnect you have. The most common method is a plastic or a metal latch that is lifted to detach your slid from rail. The second method is a push clip, which you depress to detach your rail.
Extension: Extension tells you how far your slide can extend out. There are three type of extension. ¾ extension, full extension and over travel. ¾ extension means that you can only slide out your drawer ¾ length of your rail. Full extension gives you the slide out distance equal to your rail length. Over travel gives you slide extension that is grater then your rail length.
Bearings: There are different types of bearing depends on application need.
There are two types of sliding rail systems in the market.
The first type is the solid bearing slide. The Solid bearing slide depends on direct metal-to-metal contact with or without lubricant to work. This type of sliding rail can handle heavier weight load because there is no other components in between the rail. The strength of the rail system depends of the thickness of the rail metal and the shape of the rail guide. The disadvantage is the shorter product life due to wear and tear of the rail surface.
Second type of rail system is ball bearing slide. Ball Bearing slide incorporates ball bearings in between rails to reduce friction between rails. The advantage of using ball bearing is less wear and tear to the rail and smoother movement. Even with heavier weight, you can still pull out your equipment effortlessly. The disadvantage of ball bearing is the weight to rail width and height ratio. The rule of sum is that the heavier the weight, the heavier gauge the sliding rail needs to be. On the other hand, the solid bearing can handle much more weight than ball bearing in the same size configuration.
SR02 series sliding rail are ball bearing slide using ¾ type of extension. It is ideal replacement sliding rail for 1U to 2U rackmount chassis, shelves, drawer and other lite to middle duty weight application. It comes with a pair of Adjustable mounting bracket for standard 4 Post Rack Cabinet.
